Translating to ‘of barley’ in old english, bærlic reiterates the fundamental idea that all things, no matter how complex or involved, can always be traced backward to a single, simple core or point of view.

Our point of view comes from a belief that we are all in this together and that our actions shape our world – by being honest, we are approachable; by being consistent, we are trusted; by being considerate, we can sleep at night; and by choosing to keep it simple, we are able to do this really well.

Pre-Prohibition Lager

Brewed with flaked corn reminiscent of your great great grandpappy's favorite chuggin' beer from the 1880s but with notes of ripe fruit, fresh spring flowers and a touch of citrus in a beer made for drinkin'!

We like drinking beer. So we wanted to make a beer that would satisfy a few rounds worth of conversation without the impending lack of judgement that usually accompanies getting a few rounds in.

FUTUREISMS

DOUBLE HAZY IPA

In honor of all the great things to come in the New Year, we brewed up a totally tubular Double Hazy with a creamy body poppin of overripe papaya, rock concert cannabis and sweet candy. The Future is NOW!

DARK THOUGHTS

CASCADIAN DARK ALE

A classic IPA possessed with a maniacal evil, Dark Thoughts CDA is brewed with cold-steeped roasted malts for an eerily smooth darkness. Dryhopped with .666 lbs per barrel of Columbus & Mosaic hops.

Malts: Maris Otter, Munich, C-40 & Mid. Wheat
Hops: Columbus, Chinook, Nugget & Mosaic

BRETTA de MILO

BRETT-CONDITIONED SAISON

Fermented in oak wine casks with our house saccharomyces saison yeast blend for a more expressive yeast character and a touch of oak dryness in the finish. Bottle conditioned with Brett Brux.

BAERLIC BEERS OUT IN THE WILD

Unlike most breweries, we self-distribute our beer throughout the Portland metro area. That means that all the hard work of relationship building and maintenance (we love our accounts!), account management (staying organized) and beer delivery (actual heavy lifting) we do ourselves. We believe this keeps us more connected with the end consumer (you) and let’s us speak more clearly for ourselves. So, in addition to our taproom, you’ll find Baerlic beers at these Portland area bars, restaurants and other fine establishments.

WHAT THE HELL IS A BAERLIC?

Say bear-lick…like a bear licking the foam off a frosty mug. Etymologically, it’s an old-english adjective meaning “of barley.” As in there’s beer and then there’s baerlic beer! But feel free to use it whenever you want to describe something that you can’t get enough of. As in: “These waffles are baerlic!”

THE WHO’S WHO OF WHAT’S WHAT

Born out of an undying passion for the perfect pint of beer, Baerlic Brewing Company is a collaborative entity created by us, Ben Parsons and Richard Hall. After years of brewing on the small scale in a basement and winning numerous awards in amateur competitions all over the region, we decided that we should finally give in to the voices in our heads and move toward a small scale production brewery and taproom.

When we say The Beer Here Is Near And Dear, we mean it. We strive to work in as close a proximity as possible for all our ingredients, materials, vendors, supplies, and suppliers. And that allows us to absolutely love the beer that we brew.
